Captain Vulpine! and Sapient - The Mechanikraken Calamity

from The Aftership Party by Captain Vulpine!

/

about

Vulpine: After years of not calling, Sapient came to my door in the hopes of enticing me into a steampunk pirate adventure or sorts, which of course I could not deny. We then proceeded to build this beast from the ground up while sailing the 8th sea of misfortune and self loathing, and I soon learned that the heavier parts of 'metal' are not in fact musical, but physical manifestations of horror and pain. On this long and arduous journey with a tear:blood ratio of 1:10 (per oz.), Sapient had me beaten daily until I could "keep up" guitarwise and "write a set of lyrics that I couldn't vomit up on a whim". As a Captain, it was humbling, and I must say I grew both as a musician, and in the field of metallurgy *falls into the fetal position and coughs up half a liver*
---------------------------------------
Sapient: I found the Captain to be a most capable shipmate. His lyrics came after only 18 minutes on the rack, and I hear that surgeons can do wonderful things to reattach fingers. Alas for the eye, but omelettes and eggs and all that, and the tune did turn out to be rather spiffy. Once he returns from the sanatorium in Papua New Guinea I must say I would be delighted to work with him again. Right, off to clean the pliers. Toodle-pip!

lyrics

Hold fast
Ready the guns
The mechanikraken’s here

Clockwork and steel
The legend is real
And he demands your fear

The Baron von Tesla
Built him from scratch
Damned if he can’t hold grudge

This isn’t the first
It might be the worst
Ah! Ready the guns

Heave, ho, heave men heave

Absinthian visions
Could not conjure something worse

Our will, it will not be broken
Even in the throes
Of Mechanikraken

Automoton horror looms
Close now very soon
Here comes doom.

Powderkeg stacked
Grapeshot and naptha
Priming the breech
With maniacal laughter
Heave on the tackles
Hard 'gainst the 'wark
Necking back rum
As we wait in the dark

The sound fills the air
Of steel through wood, beware!

Its limbs rip through the hull
And it’s crushing skull after skull after skull
